Battle Pwt Finals Pokã©mon Black 2 & White 2 Music
Hello everyone! Unovity here! After the great success of my Pokemon Black and White OST Review, I decided to continue, and that meant that the glorious Black 2 and White 2 were next!
Amazing games with amazing soundtracks! I loved Black 2 and White 2 (I'll be referring to them as B2W2 throughout the blog). These games really hit home for me, because gen 5 was my first Pokemon generation. Starting with Black, I fell in love with the games and bought black 2. That's enough about me though! Let's hurry up and get right into the review.
Side note: I won't be reviewing any of the extra tracks from Platinum or Emerald included in the official OST. And if the track is something small like a victory theme, I'll probably skip it.
Title Screen:
Dark, ominous, and scary. The first few seconds of this theme are just that. But wait and you will be greeted with an AMAZING orchestra that sounds heavenly. The instruments all work together to create something that sounds so good! The bells really give this theme an extra kick, and it sounds great! Music to get you hyped about your upcoming adventure!

Aspertia City:
So to get this out of the way quickly. I'm in the New York Metropolitan Area, and Unova is based off of New York City. So when hearing these tracks I automatically compare them to the location in the real world compared to the one in Unova where it plays. This track fits perfectly for a Staten Island type of feel, where the city isn't as tough and more of a residential neighborhood with houses, along with brownstone. A perfect mix of city and suburbs. The theme sounds great. I'd say it's the best starting town/city theme out there. The instruments are pretty unique and I can't say I dislike that. The drums and pianos go through a few melody. Picking up pace and then slowing back down again shows that this isn't some little town in the middle of nowhere. It's a city.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Bianca's Theme:
A classic remix on a already good theme. Bianca's theme in BW was upbeat and had a faster tempo. This shows that her journey is over and that she can now relax, because she is settled and found out what she wanted to do in life. The bells and piano are awesome! Overall decent track.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Route 19:
Best starting route theme... ever. The guitar here just sounds so good! Who would have thought that an acoustic guitar would be the main part of a starting route. The steel drums although they sound great don't fit because it isn't a beach-ish area, but in the winter theme the steel drums are replaced with a bass in the intro which is heavenly! I love the beginning of the winter theme!
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Wild Pokemon):
Overall not much difference from BW. Pretty much the standard wild battle theme. It's nothing special, only a bit added bass to make it sound more intense.
Rating: :star: :star:
Floccessy Town:
One of the most underrated tracks... ever! This is a masterpiece, in my opinion. I love the instruments in this. (Although I can't tell what they are by listening to it (I'm not a musician or remixer at all. I don't know anything about instruments)) The structure of the track is what sells me though. It's just a really good song! The bells, harmonica (?), and European sounding instruments just doing awesome.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Floccessy Ranch:
Harmonica anyone? This track just represents a Mareep farm, and I don't know why. Sounds like it should background music in an Old McDonald anime. The cowbell is by far my favorite part though. I could have never thought that a cowbell would have been in a Pokemon game.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Rival's Theme:
I can not describe how epic and awesome this theme is! The synthesizer is sooooo good. The drums are awesome too. This song really gets you pumped before a big battle. Anytime I hear it I get an adrenaline rush. Also I feel some similarities between this and Gladion's Theme from SM.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Rival):
AHHHHHHH! It's so good! I love everything about it. Pretty much everything I loved from the encounter theme got extended here!
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Virbank City:
Wow. Overall the track is mediocre. But when put into the context of a shady city it fits perfectly! The dull sounding percussion definitely makes the city feel dark and gloomy.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Team Plasma Returns:
Hit me with that techno theme! Love the drop in pace in the middle and picks up later on. Although it is a hit of a forgettable track considering their isn't much that's special about it.
Rating: :star: :star:
Pokestar Studios:
Listen to that intro! This track really pumps you up. The instruments used are really great.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Filming At Pokestar Studios:
A mediocre track considering the track pretty much consists of only pianos and a few short repeated melody's that branch into each other. Also at the beginning, it's very feint, but you could hear that the pianos were out of sync. This was probably on purpose but just doesn't sound right.
Rating: :star: :star:
For the next few tracks, since there are all pretty basic Pokestar filming tracks, I'm just going to write a quick sentence on how I feel, and give it a rating. It won't be as in depth as the normal tracks.
Pokestar Studios Tracks:
Battle: No intro, pretty violent music.
Rating: :star: :star:
Glory: Like the percussion. Not much else.
Rating: :star: :star:
Defeat: Boring
Rating: :star:
Invasion: Love the subtle piano. Overall pretty terrifying.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Success: In my opinion, best victory theme in the game. The band melted together perfectly, just wished it was longer...
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Retreat: Sounds like a Encounter Psychic theme, to Si-Fi and Techno sounding.
Rating: :star:
Weird: All over the place. Intentionally bad.
Rating: :star: :star:
Love: The saxophone is great! Provides a soft and sweet melody.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Sorrow: Meh.
Rating: :star: :star:
Horror: Lackluster until the ending. Then it explodes...
Rating: :star: :star:
Purity: Kinda boring but also relaxing! The voices top it off.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Fear: The repeating melody creates suspense and the extremely soft but high tempo background track is freaky.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Humor: It exists. And not much else...
Rating: :star:
Despair: Has the bells from Driftveil Drawbridge. Kinda cool.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Shock: Piano towards the end of the loop saves the song from being a one star.
Rating: :star: :star:
And we're back to normal!
Castelia Sewers:
This track... oh boy. So starting off, it's a pretty good song, the techno theme and repeating melody make it feel like you're lost and in a tight spot. Not bad, but there's a problem. As with all cave themes, it got so annoying. I explored every inch of the sewer and man, was that a mistake. This track just kept on looping as I tried to find my way back, but none the less, I'm not judging it on how annoying it got to hear it.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Castelia City Gym:
I'm indifferent about this track. I love it, the high pitches sounds and then long breaks perfectly portrays a bug type Pokemon theme. But it isn't strong enough to be a gym theme. Only towards the end of the loop is we're the gym theme is very noticeable.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Funfest Mission:
It's a nice theme, but pretty forgotten, and for good reason. There isn't anything special about it.
Rating: :star: :star:
Unity Tower:
Oh joy. This theme defines America. You can definitely hear pride and patriotism in the trumpets that are playing. (I may get Trumpets, Tubas, and Trombones mixed up. Sorry) Overall this track definitely makes anyone feel proud and happy. The big band used in the track might symbol the countries of the world, considering Unity Tower is based off of the United Nations HQ.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Colress's Theme:
This is a techno masterpiece. The sound effects are perfect and it just portrays evil and awesome scientist. Some people say that this track is to tech-y, however I DISAGREE.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Trainer)
Added a few bells and drums and called it new. Good job Masuda. Although it is a pretty good remix of the previous version, not much changed in the song.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Join Avenue:
I don't know what instrument plays beside the techno beats in this song but I love it. It sounds like the same instrument that plays in most of the fall and winter route themes which I think is a bass, but comment and let me know what it is. This song is definitely underrated and I love the vibe it gives. All happy and cheery!
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Join Avenue:
Take Join Avenue. Build the theme up. And let a faster pitched version of Join Avenue play. Wow. I love it 10x more than Join Avenue!!!
Review: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Nimbasa City Gym (Stage):
"Gimme what I need!!!"
The opening to this track is electrifying (pun intended). The vocals are amazing. I'd say second best in the game (aside from Colress). The rest of the track morphs the gym theme into a techno version with great vocals. Awesome track!
Review: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Gym Leader)
The intro is magnificent! The extra synthesizer is awesome and creates a fading in and out sound. This theme is so good, and even though the original isn't much different, I get a new vibe from the theme. There isn't much else to say besides the fact that it's amazing!
Victory Lies Before You:
HOLY MOOMOO MILK... wait a second... is that... BELLS!!!!!!!! THIS IS HEAVEN FOR MEH EARS GAHHHHHH IT IS SOOOO BOOTIFUL, AND IT HAS BELLS. THE COMEBACK OH MY GOD THIS IS AWESOME, AND IT HAS BELLS. THIS SONG IS MY REASON TO LIVE. IT MAKES YOU FEEL ALIVE AND THAT YOU CAN DO ANYTHING AND COMEBACK FROM ANY DISADVANTAGE. ARCEUS HIMSELF MADE THIS SONG. AND IT HAS BELLS
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
So normally next in the B2W2 OST would be Driftveil City Gym, but in my BW OST review, I never reviewed Driftveil Drawbridge because I couldn't describe how I felt for it. So here is my review:
Driftveil Drawbridge-
Wow. Just wow. I can't believe what just one song has gotten me through. Throughout my life, I've faced many problems, socially, emotionally, and education related. This song helped me get through all of those problems. I have anxiety. It appears in my everyday life all the time. I get anxious when I'm alone, or I'll get anxious and nervous because of what people think of me. This song was like my cure for anxiety. It was my medicine. This song starts out sort of slow and dry. With a few bells, and a piano. That's it. Sort of plain and boring. This totally compares to my life, because I'm nobody special. The average Youngster Joey. I'm not a person that has or will change the world. Then the theme changes pace as all the piano beats build up and then let go in a grand melody. I still don't know how to describe the part right before the loop. If a music buff could describe it in the comments below that would be great. I call it a falling melody because it sounds like it's falling (it's stupid I know). But this "falling melody" is just heavenly to me. I listen to it almost every day. I play this song on repeat while i'm sleeping so I can go to sleep listening to it and wake up listening to it. It's just so good and so underrated. My dream has always been to live in a big city (specifically New York City) and the "falling melody" represents my dream. It's just full of hope and the theme inspires me. Say what you want about Driftveil Drawbridge, but it will always be my go to song when I'm feeling down.
Driftveil City Gym:
bAsS
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Pokemon World Tournament:
Awesome buildup into the main part of the song. It feels like a Neo Pokemon League/Victory Road track, although for some reason, I'm just not a huge fan of it.
Rating: :star: :star:
I'm not rating all the gym leader themes...
PWT Final Round:
Oh man this song makes me want to go all out! The introduction builds up and blows up. Then the song sounds like a rollercoaster with high parts and low parts. The techno instruments and drum beat remind me of Hugh's battle theme and we all know I love that song, and PWT Final Round took that song and made it ten times better. I always thought the one thing lacking from Hughs Battle theme was a good intro, and this song added it.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Underground Ruins:
Hey Hoenn, how ya doin'?
Meteor Falls in a B2W2 sound-font. Cool
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Aboard The Plasma Frigate:
This theme gets heavy. Real heavy. The drums are the same that plays in Ghetsis' theme, and the bells provided an ominous feel to an already scary track. It's very fitting for an evil team base, but also doesn't give an infiltration feel.
Rating: :star: :star:
Zinzolins Theme:
This theme is very quiet and suspicious. A soft instrument gives of a small hum, and that's pretty much the basis of the track. Nothing special.
Rating: :star: :star:
Cheren's Theme:
The bass master is back and better than ever! Hearing them side by side makes me say that this is Zinzolin's theme at a higher pace with some extra notes. But it's a really fun track to listen too!
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Mistralton City Gym:
The flutes here give this gym a very open and natural feel, reflecting the characteristics of the sky. The wobbly melody in the background makes you feel like your flying through the sky. Overall this melody brings out the best of the gym, I love it! Finally, I could definitely see this track doing great being remastered with an orchestra. Take notes future Black and White remake director.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Lentimas Town:
Ouch, this song honestly hurts my ears. It reminds me of Driftveil City a lot with the harsh style. It's a hard song to listen to. It has a spanish style to it, but I don't like the way it flows. Just not my style.
Rating: :star:
The Road To Reversal Mountain
Once again, not a huge fan of this theme. It's short and reminiscent of Lentimas Town. It has another spanish style but this one is more grueling. Once again, not my type.
Reversal Mountain (Black):
Not as good as White version, but still fits. This theme is a lot calmer than White version, because unlike white version, it isn't a volcano containing lava. It's a dormant volcano containing water. It's calmer, but doesn't give you the feel of adventure that white version does.
Rating: :star: :star:
Reversal Mountain:
First of all, let me just say the first part of the song where they repeat the small jingle with the bells at the beginning definitely helped build suspense, but instead of it staying calm, it build up into a "N Castle Bridge" like theme. Overall it's much better than Black version, and I love the horns in this song.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Strange House:
Just a ambient melody with a few sound effects. Still the looming effect it has makes it sound really scary, but not something I'd listen to for fun.
Rating: :star:
Opelucid City Gym:
I need a guitar version of this fast. This song is so triumphant, and although not a great song in general, it reflects the massive giant black or white dragon in front of you. Not my favorite, but the song definitely has character.
Rating: :star: :star:
The Frozen City:
This song is literally nothing more then some chimes. But it's so good because it's nothing. It mean nothing yet everything at the same time. Opelucid City has fallen to a terrorist attack the whole city has stopped. You would expect chaos after an attack like that, but really, the whole city is frozen and it stops all activity in the city. Nothing can happen, all activities are frozen in time.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Team Plasma):
OHH YES. ITS TIME. One of my favorite battle themes. This battle theme gets super pumped for a grunt battle theme. At the beginning the electric synths build up and I love it. It energizes you and just like the gym battle theme, the rest of the battle theme fades in and out of action-y themes. The electric style of the song is just sooooo good.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Shadow Triads Theme:
The first layer of music kicks in, starts off as a electro action theme. Then a second layer kicks in with a harsh rock melody kicks in and finally another layer of techno music lands. The way the intro is segment into three different parts that build up. It's not a horrible melody but it's not something too special, yet it fits the triad amazingly.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Marine Tube:
OHHH THAT INTRO! The sudden drop into the wobbly synth(i think) sounds great! Go Inchinose's style is so good. You can hear the Ultra Wormhole theme in USUM sound like this too. It's just such a good theme and it reflects the tunnel so well.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Humilau City:
Another great song, I don't really have much to say. It's just a good, solid theme.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Humilau City Gym:
Elevator music!!! This gym theme is super relaxing and bossa-nova styled! I love the calm feeling it is. I definitely suits the calm lily pond of Marlion's gym.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Route 22:
THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF A ROUTE THEME!
It starts of extremely courageous sounding! As if you just took you first step into a new region (@Johto Route 26). The theme is just so triumphant! It's so good! I love the bells in the winter version! It's all just so good!
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Infiltrating The Plasma Frigate:
Get on your knees and fear this theme! Ohhh I love it! I can't tell the instruments in it, but it just sounds so good. Not my favorite though.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Colress):
5.... 4.... 3... (3...) 2... 1...
OH I LOVE THIS THEME! The quiet ambient intro makes this character mysterious, then the beat drops and you can hear the amazing vocals that make this feel like a sci-fi movie theme! The theme gets much more intense, and you can hear a "rise and fall" type melody. and then towards the end of the loop, it becomes very quiet again. It's just a really good theme!
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Black Kyurem/White Kyurem):
Not my favorite, but you definitely feel an ominous feeling from this theme. It's a theme with a fast pace and it's reference to the battle theme is awesome! Just not too memorable in my opinion.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Ghetsis):
Not my favorite either. It's mainly just drums with vocals. I think it's kind of bland and although it implement a feeling of fear, it doesn't sound as fast paced as it should.
Rating: :star: :star:
Route 23:
ANOTHER GREAT ROUTE! This game nailed it with the route themes. It's such a good song. The beginning has a drop like marine tube but the melody rises back up and it really feels like a prideful theme! I can march to this all day!
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
N's Castle:
I remember the first time I listened to this I thought my headphones were broken but it was really just a scratchy sound in the back. It's kind of odd because the melody has many pauses in between beats. It's suppose to represent the fall of N's castle and N's redemption I guess, but it just doesn't sound that good.
Rating: :star: :star:
N's Theme:
Why the heck am I even reviewing this theme if it's the same as last gam... oh wait. This is a. nice surprise. It just got friendlier. A lot friendlier! The melody in this song change after the first loop and you can hear new flutes that make this song a more happy tune. I love it as it shows N's development from the previous games.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (N):
It's N's theme, but more amped up with some more pauses and drums. And it made the theme 100x times more powerful. I love the heavy feeling you get when the guitar comes in, and the vocals with the falling melody is so good!
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Black Tower/White Treehollow:
Both super calm elevator music. I love the relaxing-ness of it.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Black Tower: If Castelia Sewers fused with Cold Storage and took steroids, this would be their theme. It's such a complicated melody and it makes you feel like your in a maze. Oh wait a second, Black Tower is a maze! The bass in the theme is great too, but the falling piano notes at the end of
the beginning segments are pretty cool.
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star:
White Treehollow:
Meh, it has flutes. Sounds pretty natural. Nothing special to me.
Rating: :star: :star: :star:
Battle! (Champion):
The intro tho! It's so good. The dazzling bells surprise you and the spastic melody is all over the place yet the base stays the same. It's so good! I love the main part of the theme! The synth is so fun and happy sounding, coupled with the bells, it just sounds so good. Then the theme gets more intense, incorporating a heavy bass in there and some drums to make it sound much more harsh. It's a varying theme worthy of a champion. The theme is light hearted at times, which reflects Iris' battle style of the fact that she only battles to have fun. Battles are suppose to be fun, not always this serious battle stuff, such as Team Plasma fighting for their beliefs. Iris fights for fun and this theme reflects that, but she's also a tough opponent, and the drums and bass show that side of her. Overall, my second favorite champion theme. (SM is my first (if that counts)).
Rating: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Staff Credits:
This theme makes me cry. The soft sounding intro into this grand melody, the piano is just so soothing, yet sad. It reminds you of all the great times you had on your journey. All the people you met, all the pokemon you befriended, and all the battles you won. It's all reflected here in this theme. I can't say this theme is sad, it's more of a nostalgic theme. It makes you feel sad, because your reminiscing over all the great times. It's just a great theme and a proper way to end a game.
